The off side in cricket refers to an area of the field, unlike the term offiside use in other ball sports. This area used to be a moving target and one characterised by the more flatulent of the team fielding in said area. Due to both the deteriorating diet of the modern cricketer and also the rise of veganism within some cricketing groups, it was deemed confusing by the ICC as the entire field was at times considered off. It now refers to the right-hand side of the field (for a right-handed batsman).
